Anthony Guter

I am Head of Finance (and IT Manager) at Van Walsum Management Limited, a classical music management agency. Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I have worked for Ernst & Young, Dana Corporation, Brown Brothers Automotive, Mastertronic Virgin Mastertronic, Sega Europe and Deith Leisure.

I started to learn computer programming in 1981 and soon acquired an Apple ][ and taught myself the elements of Basic, Visicalc and word processing. In 1986, whilst working for computer games publisher Mastertronic I used the Smart suite of programmes on an IBM PC. Since then I have specialised in Microsoft Access applications for business use. In 1992 I implemented JBA software, running on the IBM AS/400, for Virgin Mastertronic and continued to work on implementations with Sega Europe and finally Deith Leisure. Between 1989 and 1998 I was a full time IT manager, but I have now happily reverted to a mainstream Accounting and Finance role.

The Mastertronic pages on this website are based on my experiences at the company and on the unique data relating to sales and authors that I preserved long after the business was defunct. Virtually every history of the company on the internet owes something to this section, and many are taken verbatim from it.

The Bristow section started as a test to see if I could create web pages using Ami Pro, a word processor software that is now sadly obsolete. I began collecting the strips from the Evening Standard in 1972 but not until the era of database software and scanners was I able to do very much with them. Thanks to the British Newspaper Library, I am working on a long term project to photograph every strip - I hope to complete this by around the year 2012
